The journal was founded in 1946 by Dr. Paul Doheny, a Veremont physician-scholar and early commentator on the relationship between mind, body, and society.
According to the journal’s founding history, Dr. Doheny was born in the Village of Camden, Veremont, in Penkridge County. He studied psychology and biology at Newton & Hooke University in Brickstown, Veremont. His academic interests centered on human behavior, biological development, public health, and the intellectual foundations of medical thought.
Dr. Doheny envisioned a journal that would not only discuss disease and treatment but also explore the deeper moral, psychological, and scientific questions surrounding human nature and health.
The Veremont Journal of Medicine is an independent publication devoted to medical, scientific, and philosophical commentary. Established in 1946, the journal was founded to promote thoughtful inquiry into health, biology, psychology, and the broader questions shaping human life and medicine.
The journal publishes essays, reports, reflections, and independent research exploring both established and contested ideas in medicine and science. Its purpose is to encourage disciplined thinking, critical examination, and intellectually serious discussion.
Though inspired by the great medical journals of New England, the Veremont Journal of Medicine is distinct in its editorial character, combining formal research-minded writing with independent thought and commentary.
